Tinnitus

Tinnitus, or tinnitus, is a condition that patients perceive as buzzing, ringing, hissing, whistling or whistling in their ears. These are auditory sensations that have no source in the surrounding environment.

Tinnitus therefore represents a kind of internal noise that often makes it impossible for patients to rest peacefully and concentrate on their normal activities.

What Causes Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is not a disease that can be treated on its own. It can also be a symptom of other problems. It can occur in patients of any age and affects both men and women. The highest percentage of incidence is in the elderly and in people who are constantly exposed to noise, but cases in young people are also increasing rapidly. Although the causes of tinnitus are not known for certain, triggering conditions include

Hearing damage caused by extremely loud noises (music, construction machinery, gunshots)

Ear, neck or head injuries

External ear canal inflammation

Conductive hearing loss (perceptual hearing loss)

Use of certain medications (e.g. analgesics, antibiotics or antivirals)

Neurological diseases (MS, etc.)

Metabolic diseases (diabetes, vitamin B12 deficiency etc.)

Psychiatric diseases (anxiety, depression, etc.)

Blood pressure fluctuations

Hearing loss due to old age

Tooth problems

Prolonged stress

Tinnitus Treatment

Tinnitus can be treated depending on the cause of the problem. However, there is usually no treatment in the usual sense of medication or surgery to eliminate the condition. In most cases, tinnitus treatment is primarily aimed at modifying and alleviating the discomfort that may be associated with the perception of foreign sound. In general, the following methods are used to treat tinnitus:

Medication: Depending on the cause of the tinnitus, the doctor may recommend medication. For example, antidepressant medication may be needed for this problem caused by stress or fatigue.

Physical therapy: This method can be applied depending on the cause of the tinnitus. For example, physical therapy may be used for tinnitus caused by damage to the eardrum.

Preventive methods: Preventive methods can also be applied to tinnitus. For example, yoga or meditation can be used to reduce stress.

Surgical methods: If the cause of tinnitus is a blockage in the ear or damage to the eardrum, the doctor may recommend surgical treatment. This surgical procedure is usually performed under anesthesia and varies depending on the cause of the tinnitus.
